Literature Text

I
lay down
my old crown-
I need it not.
It hits me with a frown,
reminds me of what I once thought -
the heavy weight of duty that I sought.
"I will wear it until the distant day I die!"
Another king needs come step in my spot,
maybe one who cherishes his lot.
In my duty I drown,
in it I am caught.
Damn the crown,
this town
~ Bye
This form is called Diatelle. It consists of 15 lines that follow a rhyme pattern of ABBCBCC-A-CCBCBBA with a fixed number of syllables: 1/2/3/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/3/2/1. The challenge is to find rhyming words that make sense even if they rhyme in quick succession and without a lot of space in between. It looks best in a diamond shape.

The Diatelle form was created by Bradley Vrooman.

You're right, it is a king committing suicide. I think the rhyme scheme may be fighting your clarity.
